Bear Peak

Starting at the National Center for Atmospheric Research trailhead, the hike leaves the campus edge on the N.C.A.R. Trail and crosses the open Table Mountain foothills toward the Mesa Trail, with the Flatirons rising to the west above Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks.

It then follows the Mesa Trail south through rolling meadow and forest, passing above Bear Canyon before reaching the Fern Canyon approach.

From there, the route turns sharply upward through shaded, rocky Fern Canyon, climbs past the rugged formations around Nebel Horn, Seal Rock and The Goose, and finishes on Bear Peak with wide views over the plains, foothills and mountains.
